What is your idea of the quintessential gospel artist?
The "gospel" artist seeks first to glorify the gospel "Author", Jesus Christ. The gospel artist understands their gift. The gospel artist knows what their gift is given to them for. The gospel artist uses their gift to minister first to Almighty God and then to those who listen. Jesus must be honored with our message as well as our melody; until then I believe we are just making a bunch of noise.
Who is your favorite gospel artist?
Daryl Coley. The reason Daryl is my favorite gospel artist is because his testimony brings me closer to what I am supposed to be as a saint. I am also fascinated with his runs, rolls, and riffs. To me, he's the 'Michael Jordan' of gospel music. However, I will give appreciation to whom it is due: The Clark Sisters, Commission, John P., Men of Standard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Kirk Franklin with all his many gospel family members (that's what's up Kirk); these artists' songs have helped me over the years to develop my talent as well as my worship. So I thank you all.
Do you have any special talents that set you apart from the competition?
I'm one of the best chess players to play the game. Put me on the basketball court. . . AND 1. I write poetry and songs. I major in I.T. Information Technology. I have a thorough knowledge of the word of God. Oh, did I mention that I can sing. lol. God bless.
Which gospel song best describes your relationship with God?
Beyond the Veil by Daryl Coley. Beyond the Veil is a song that says, I want more than just a simple 'Lord I thank you' kind of praise. It is more than the sweet sound and slow tempo of the instruments being played (mistakenly called worship). It is much more than standing on a stage as a worship leader or putting on a concert to draw people nearer to the Father. Beyond the Veil, to me, is the ever increasing awareness and reverence of the PRESENCE of the worthy Lamb of God.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
God doesn't make mistakes humans do. The only thing that man needs to change before and after he is saved, is his way of thinking. And to submit all his thoughts to the obedience of Christ. Okay, am I getting a little too spiritual here? Well, let me see what I would change about me. . . . . . my smile! I smile, but not like I want to. I don't have special teeth- - maybe I do, but THAT special is not in a good way. But I do what I do to get where I need to be.
